About the Dojo
Okinawa Aikikai, U.S. Dojos offers traditional Aikido instruction to students who live and work in Washington, DC, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Classes are taught holistically with equal emphasis on realistic, effective self-defense techniques and proper mental training/focus.
What is the Okinawa connection? Okinawa is Japan's southern-most prefecture. The DC dojo is a branch of the main Okinawa Aikikai in Japan. In turn, the parent dojo on Okinawa is connected to the Aikido World Headquarters (also called the “Aikikai” or “Hombu Dojo”) in Tokyo.
Students from the DC Dojo have taken advantage of these affiliations and traveled to both Okinawa and Tokyo for cultural immersion and Aikido training.
Facilities: The dojo is a 2,500-square foot, modern, well-lit space. The separate men’s and women’s changing rooms are clean and include showers for the convenience of the students.
How to get there: The dojo is across the street from the Woodley Park Metro stop on the Red Line and next to the restaurant, Lebanese Taverna. The address is 2639 Connecticut Ave NW, Suite C-104, Washington, DC 20008.
Parking: Street parking is available for free. You may also use the underground parking garage attached to the building. The underground parking garage entrance is located in the alley behind the dojo. The cost to use the underground parking garage is $5 regardless of how long you stay.
